The Cult of Obama

We still don't know what Hillary Clinton is going to pull before this election is over, but there is a very good chance that Barack Obama will be the Democratic nominee. Obama's closet has been slightly probed, mainly by conservative media outlets and Hillary's desparate campaign, but to his supporters Obama is the equivalent of the Second Coming, and can do no wrong. I heard Laura Ingraham speaking about this a few weeks ago; she said that she had spoken to an Obama supporter, who had said that she supported Obama not because she agreed with his policies on healthcare or taxes or the war, but because she believed in "social liberation." Obama has generated a cult-like atmosphere, consisting of either idealistic youngsters or people who want to relive the 1960's. Conservative commentator Steve Sailer wrote an article on this a while ago, in which he made the point that Obama supporters do not say that they agree with Obama's stances; rather, they say "I believe in Barack Obama." But where does Obama stand? In Sailer's article, he quoted a reporter who had interviewed people with whom Obama had gone to law school, and asked them about his political positions. They replied that they "could not remember his specific views, beyond a general emphasis on diversity and social and economic justice." Sailer explained what this would mean for America if Obama were to be elected president: " 'Diversity' means racial quotas, multiculturalism, and immigration. 'Social and economic justice' means tax and spend." That's what Obama is: just another utopian, multiculturalist, socialist-leaning liberal, only he is a misguided liberal who may be president of the United States. Obama will give us socialism unadulterated by political oppurtunism and wariness of conservative backlash. Obama's lack of oppurtunism and wariness will work against him, but his followers, who seem to think he's the Messiah, may overwhelm all sensibility.
